CVX.... take a look at its 5yr and lifetime appreciation.. Plus is has a decent dividend.
Get it now while it is down.
Edit: Addressing the comment of the guy below me. Look, I'm not defending CVX, it is a stodgy old company, but anyone worth their salt will tell you the price of the stock alone is irrelevant. Take a look at PE ratio (the lower the better): CVX = 8.2, HKN = 27.4. Look at the dividend CVX = 2.80%, HKN = 0%. And look at appreciation: CVX has been appreciating steadily since before 1970. HKN tanked big-time in the 1990's and has been all over the map in the last 5 yrs. Anyway, if you like high risk, HKN is a good choice. |

You can sometimes invest in drilling ventures for around $5000 or more. The return can be incredible if successful. However, the historical record shows that from year to year, of the exploratory wells drilled, only one-in-9 to one-in-11 are economically viable. In other words there is a 90% chance you'll lose.
PS - I last invested in a wildcat in a joint venture with the branch of Prudential Insurance that does such things (lost it all; well came in but then ran dry a short time later). I tell you this so you will know that the stock market isn't the only way to do this kind of thing. Do your research. It is a high bucks game with both high rewards and high risk. |
