Is this a bad idea. ?
I have some money to invest and was considering GM The price per stock is 6.51 and the 1 year high is 41.11. The mergers with chrystler is a possible bigtime money maker. i would only invest 500 dollars. Is this a good idea. 10 points to most detailed answer!!!

are you sure? invest less & if you do well start investing more. if u feel you want to start do about 200$ still a lot but would be a better choice. if you suceed maybe go higher you can even go to 600$ if you feel ready. START LOW THEN HIGH if you feel confiden go for it.

I think that it's a good idea. I mean, $500 isn't that huge of an amount to begin with, but it could end up being something huge. GM's joining Chrystler will definitely change things up for the better. It's a smart move, since stocks are low and if you want to buy, it's cheap. If GM and Chrystler end up being something big, then you'll regret not buying.

Too hot, you will get burned.

Personally, I would rather buy a stock that pays a good dividend and has a healthy balance sheet. However, $500.00 is basically the cost of beer and pizzas. So, go for it, if you think GM will survive.

no its not a bad idea, it has potential
now if you were going to invest a significant amount of money i would not go with it..

It's risky right now since the market crashed, but in a way it is acutally smart to invest anywhere. Hell with it, the possiblilities with the mergers is great, I would go for it since the stocks will rise in the future.

Well, I bought 50,000 shares of it last week but that was for a trade only. At 4.00 GM was a bargain but no matter what if you are thinking that it is going back to 41 anytime soon, I think you would be mistaken.

It's 500 dollars. If you have a lot of patience, and you can afford to lose it, why not? Personally, I think there are good stocks that will out perform it in the short term, but it is up to you.

Terrible idea!

The 1 year high is simply the highest price someone was stupid enough to pay. What it was should not enter into your investment decisions. You can only make money on where it's going. Every once in a while bottom fishing pays off, but generally, buying things that are going down is a bad idea. Successful traders buy things that are going up.

Don't invest in GM since they make hummers, gas prices are insane these days and i doubt ANYONE in their right mind would buy hummers atm.
