It depends on when you're planning on putting those kids through college. But the best advice I can give is this: Now's the time to get into the market. Buy low. Sell high. It may take a couple of years, but the market will bounce back. You have to ignore your returns in the short-term, it will only depress you. Think longer term- it will pay off.

And precious metals are just as risky in their own way. If you need money soon, invest in a certificate of deposit. It's completely safe and you can get them in any length.

Buy Low, sell High. It's low right now, correct?

Actually, a week ago was the ideal time. If the money is for a future purchase, such as a child's education, now would be a good time.

If you'll need that money short term, you may want to choose a different vehicle.

If i was you I wouldn't buy silver or gold both are going down in price. I would put money in a high yield savings account like etrade.

well, i did most of my investing when the market was good.. and it all crashed on me... losing alot of money right now.. its gotten down right brutal for me..

but seeing how high things use to be, and now how over sold and undervalued these stocks are.. i say its a good buying opurtunity..... in the short term next 2 - 3 months it might drift a bit lower.. but long term most certainly it will be higher then this.. everything is undervalued right now...

especially OIL and Gold.. i would go with commodities.. because in a few years we will have a shortage of them...

Any money you need for short term needs, should be kept safe at the bank. I have some gold & silver, but I consider them a more speculative investment. For the long term, I like stocks & stock mutual funds. I was buying my company stock at $70 a share. Now that it is $29, I tend to think that is a much better price.

Think long term, don't get caught up in the here and now. The market & the economy, will almost surely turn around at some point. Be pro-active, and not re-active

The stock market is dead and buried. If you want to invest with no risk, most insurance cos have fixed annuities. It might only pay 5 or 6%, but there is risk and has nothing to do with the stock market. Most banks have a financial adviser that can set it up for you. Don't let them try to sell you anything else but the fixed annuities because they make a bigger commission,
