Is wealth the only measure of success?

Tom C
It's the only measurement that matters...kidding.

Wealth can mean many things; family wealth, health, status, career fulfillment...etc.

Personally though, I like to measure success by the bank account.

alice_mayo
I have never been wealthy in the financial sense of the word, but;

- when I look at my three beautiful children that God blessed me with

- when I share a meal with family and friends

- when my bird sits on my shoulder and sings to me as I wash the dishes

- when I listen to my babies reading to me after teaching them in my own home

- when I fold the laundry and realize just how much my children have grown over the last year

- when I watch my oldest son growing taller than me and loving my God with all of his heart, and mind, and soul

- when my husband comes in from working hard all day and wraps his arms around me and tells me how much he loves me

- when I cry over a stack of bills we cannot pay, but then somehow God makes life possible until the next paycheck -

then I know that I have all the wealth that matters, and I am definitely a success.

No, it's not true and is incorrect to say that! However wealth is also a mesure of success, only if it is generated by self! The inherited wealth does not!
So, not all the wealthy people are successful and not all the successful people are wealthy!

★Greed★
Personal definitions differ.

JD
of course not. some might question whether it is a measure of success at all, or at least not just by itself, other things are necessary to complete the formula.

Measure of sauces varies as per individual perception and mind set.
Lets take an example - We say SANJAY DUTT is successfully as he is wealthy but still to his hard luck he is struggling to keep his fame ( jails and stuff ). on the counter side we say Mother Teresa she is successful, if we are not wrong she has left every comfort and was doing Charity work, so where is the wealth.
We completely be live in the theory if you have inner satisfaction and you have achieved your set goals then you are successful.
We are living life our our self not for showing others we are this and we are that.
Inner satisfaction bring happiness, one who has learned how to be happy is the best . Rest monetary gains and wealth are secondary.

Be happy achieve your goals .

It depends on what type of success you are referring to, financial success, personal success, etc. Honestly, I believe that if you can do what you love and make a living at it that doesn't eat up all your time, that is true success in my book.

It is the only visible part of success. Other aspects are hidden close to one's heart.

I don't believe that wealth is the only measure of success. People measure success in many different ways. Someone can be rich but it doesn't mean that they are wealthy.

I h8 Prajakta.
First you tell me what is your idea of success, ok?
If you see my profile, you'll see I am in the debate team. Once, the topic given to my team was "Is wealth a requisite for happiness and success?" Our team was saying no, and we won!!

No.

First we need to define Wealth. Is it money? Friendship? Happiness?

If it is money, it can be a measure of economical success.
Happiness? It can be the measure of success in the things you like to do, and you dedicate to do.

You must remember, wealth doesn't bring success. And success doesn't always bring wealth. (example, You can become very successful in your business, but very unhappy. Or you can be very rich, but have no real success, you haven't been able to succeed in the things you want to.

Roopesh Mandloi
No, wealth is not the only measure of success. Many people have wealth but some of them are known as successful person in their life. There are so many duties & works to be accomplished in the human life. Work for our society & country, social services for disabled people & help to the old age citizens give satisfaction at the last atage of our life. Only money earning or making wealth is not enough to be successful.

RunningUte
Only for those that don't have any money!

The meaning of word "success" is not one entity, successes are in different fields, aspects for example wealth, money, exams., inventions, sports activities etc.etc. I believe success in any field depends on your aptitude and aims and goals with application of the required efforts . Without efforts no success can attain.

Therefore, I suggest you to select field/fields first to find success and apply required efforts/tools to reach successs, Then you carry on in every steps taken to measure and see whether you attained success. So the answer is, wealth is not only the measure of success but there are may more.

I may be bias, but it is to me.

Dave
Attempting to measure one's wealth vs. success ratio can only be done personally. Just because you're wealthy doesn't mean your successful, and just because you're successful doesn't mean you'll be wealthy.

The only real* measure of success is how you feel about yourself. What other people see about you shouldn't matter.

i guess happiness is the best measure of success rather than wealth but now a days in today's practical world most probably wealth is required to become happy. so in a way they are interrelated but i would still consider happiness a better measure of success

Theoretically yes !!
Practically though, success is having only that much of minimum/enough money which happily allows you to do in your life, what your heart loves to do. THAT is success. Otherwise people just die in a GRIND earning a lots of money but have no time to even to find their true vocation in life !!

Aval Vyas
Success is subjective. It depends on what your goal is. It can be wealth, status anything. If you have achieved what you have aimed for, its your success.

If it were true all the TFB's in the world would be a successful at birth..

I am financially secure but a long way from rich.,... unless you count friends I would have no problem calling at 3AM for advice, and they can do the same to me.

You have to define your life, and live your life as you see it.

I try very hard to keep my ethics (philosophy) and morals (practice of ethics) on the same page. If I can do that I am successful by my definition.

LOL... had a friend reading over my shoulder... TFB is Trust Fund Baby common colliquialism here :)
