Leave it where it is. I have some money in the bank and even though interest is poor. It's a lot safer there than hidden in my house!

In these uncertain times take it out the bank and stick it under your mattress!!

Doctor Deth
what rate are you getting now? compare it to 6 month or 12 month cd's at your bank and move the money into a cd if it pays more

if you put into a bond account which means you can`t touch it for 6mths, 12mths or 5yrs, it will earn you more interest than a normal account but at the moment interest rates for savers are low

Uchimataman
Take it out of the Bank. It's earning buger all there.

If you can leave it untouched for a yr, the best 1 yr bond at the moment is Anglo irish. A 1 yr bond is 4.6% gross last time I looked.
That's 3.68 Net (After tax).
So in 1 year your five grand will be £5,184.after tax.

Your money is guaranteed up to 100,000 euros if they go bust.

An ISA is a tax-free savings account. You don't pay tax on interest earned. The current maximum you can put in it each tax year is £3600.

Put the £5k in an instant access savings account ( not ISA) now.
By march, banks will be in competition with each other to offer the best ISA interest rate. you could open one then, put£3600 in it for tax year 08/09, then after 6th april put the rest in it so you'll get decent tax-free interest on the whole lot.

Don't put it in an isa now as the interest rates won't be as good as March and come march when the new isa's are out, most have terms & conditions that don't allow transfers from another isa.

Sali
nothing, they reduced the interest rate to push us to spend to end the recession time ASAP but many banks haven't reduced the mortgage interest as well as many people are loosing their jobs///etc/

The only thing to do is buy dollar and resell it when the exchange rate is better as the dollar will go up, but no one know.

niallgerry
do nothing, just leave it, though if u hear anything about Natwest in trouble take it out, as interest rates are plummeting anywhere you go your not going to get much.

Hope It Answered your question

annepatriciawebb
If you gave it to me - I would be VERY interested.
