Whether you keep the money or not is one thing, but you should always return the wallet.
Beyond the headache involved with cancelling credit cards, getting a new ID, etc., people keep pictures and other irreplaceable things in their wallets.
So, tell them "I found your wallet but there was no money in it" if you want to, but at least return the other stuff. |

I once lost my wallet. The police 'phoned me the next day. It had been handed in by a street-sleeper who had put a note inside saying "I took half the cash coz I was skint sorry."
The return of my driving licence, bank cards and various other bits and pieces ( including a business card from someone I had to 'phone the following week and a photograph of sentimental value ) was priceless. |

i once lost my wallet when i was in Italy and it had my return ticket back to the UK and my passport, also i had almost £500 cash in the wallet too, weeks later the wallet was posted back to me in the UK with everything in it except the cash, just getting my wallet back with the other documents was priceless, the money i did not care about.
like someone said, its the hassel of ringing the banks and applying for new documents is a real bast$%d. With all my heart if i was to ever find ANY amount in a wallet with an address, i would honestly give it to the owner. |

Anytime I found something that belonged to an identifyable party I would return it- on the other hand if I found a bundle of drug money lying along the road...that's another story ! |

return it if I could find the address and it was in the same city that I was currently in. |

If it had an address i wld take it back. I'd feel guilty if i didnt and i'd like to think that if i lost that much, someone wld return it to me. If there was no address, i'd pocket it. |

The right, moral, thing to do
is give it back.
In life, what you do comes
back. It doesn't matter if
it's good or bad. Sooner
or later, your deeds find
you.
Hopefully, the good out-weigh
the bad. |

Well honestly, I would courier the wallet back to the person and use the money for a nice little booze for the day. |

Return it to its owner, not expect or accept any reward, and bask in my good karma for the rest of the day.
It's only money, you know! |
