if all you have is $1000, don't invest in stock. If this is money you can live without (or at least part of it) look at AMD. Advanced Micro Devices. PC and server chips. Down significantly over he last year, due to difficulty bringing some new products to market. But I think they're ready to give intel a good run for its money.
