The purpose of the Fed is to calm the markets so if it means lie, by all means, they will lie. Ben reported to Congress yesterday that he expects inflation to run about 1.5%-2% this year. Personally, I think it is running that much PER DAY. Wheat is up 50% in January, Corn is up over 100% in less than a year, energy is up 50% in a year. Nobody should believe anything our elected officials say anymore. They would rather lie than admit to a problem that they can't fix.

By the way, did you know the Federal Reserve is a PRIVATE company, not Government owned? It is true. See for yourself on wikipedia. Very scary thought.

It's not Ben's or Alan's fault. It's the Bush administration's fault. They''re the ones spending more than we can afford and have policies which are reminiscent of Reagonomics which have been proven not to work. You can't go more into debt to get out of a recession which is what the Bush administration is doing. Rather, you need to cut back and RAISE INTEREST RATES! While it may hurt in the short term, long term it will help us far more.

Bernake is continuing the living in the bubble situation that Greenspan started before him.

The Fed is clueless and reacts after the fact and takes credit for economic things that the free market takes care of itself.

To answer your question NO I would not trust anything he says.

He's not God, fer chrissakes. A LOT of people have been wrong about the depth of the subprime shakeout. And that includes Jim Cramer who at this time last year was assuring his viewers that the subprime issue was insignificant.
