apg2000 | Last month (March) I made 7.46% on my investments. Is that considered good? How did you do? Just curious.? |
.28 basis points cost.
Still new at investing and was wondering what the average person's return was for the Month of March. Additional Details trade_info, I know what you mean by thinking your a GOD.... LOL... A couple of good trades and that mind set kinda settles in. On my long term stuff that I started last May of 2005 I have an annual return of 17.70%. That is if April doesn't dissapoint. |

it is an awesome return. doubt that you could repeat that month after month. that is over a 90% annual return.
i don't track my returns on a daily or monthly basis as it would cause me to make decisions that don't fit my investment style. if you make 10% one month and think you are the investing GOD, then it may change your style and cause problems the next month. i would be thrilled to make 20% a year as this would be double the stock market historical norms.
good luck |

Yes, you did good, better than the guy run my mutual funds. I made about between 5% and 6%. Hey, it is better than nothing. |

If you can keep that up, you will indeed be doing well. However, just remember that there were a lot of people making a lot of money during the tech boom of the late 90's who got wiped out when the bubble burst. |

Actually you did excellent, you beated most hedge funds (forget mutual funds, they are poor performance vehicles). I really envy you.
Still, before you believe you are a God, what type of stocks did you trade? big cap, small, cap? What sectors did you trade? Guessing from your performance, you were in metals,or construction machinery, or oil, or brokers, or some internet stuff.
Now, from may 2005 the Russell 2000 (2000 small companies in the US) has returned a 30% gain. That always makes you think. |

The stock market, overall, has averaged about 12% gorwth per year over the last several decades, but how much growth is good depends on how you are investing.
If you break investments down into low, moderate and high risk, then 7.46 would be a very good return for moderate-risk investments, outstanding for low-risk, and about average or a bit disappointing for high-risk.
It depends too on how you are investing. If you are buying individual stocks, then I would say that you did a smashing job. Mutual funds, however, tend to fare a bit better. If you are trading bonds, then you should definately start playing the lottery with that kind of luck.
The real test will be to see if you can keep it up over a long period of time. Good luck to you :) |

Yes it is. it his 446 basis points over inflation.
However, you have to deduct taxes on REVENUE.
Nonetheless, it his superior to inflation.
However, your question does not mention the kind of investments or what is the kind of risk taken to generate the 7.46%.
The answer COULD BE VERY DIFFERENT AND SURPRISING. |

I'd say it's fairly respectable. Average returns on stocks or mutual funds falls between 5 and 12% I believe. |
