Merill Lynch analyst says risk of recession is close to 100% - What is your take on this prediction?
Here is the article.

Excerpt:
>>Merrill analyst David Rosenberg, who previously forecast the Fed would lower interest rates in the second half of 2007, said there are two possible scenarios. With a rate cut, economic growth will slow to about 1 percent. If rates are left unchanged, and housing prices fall 10 percent, the probability of a recession is "very close to 100 percent," Rosenberg wrote. <<

An economist at my company made these statements:

1. The market has priced in a 100% certainty for at least a 25 bp rate cut next week.

2. It has priced in a 70% probability for a 50 bp rate cut.

3. A recession has always followed two consecutive reports of negative job growth. We just had our first.

4. Overall, a recession within the next year is likely.

His view agrees with the Merril Lynch analyst. I don't know about 100%, but I agree that it is likely.

Its not only the subprime mortgages killing the housing sector. It was the last bastion left to pillage. And thats exactly what occurred. Not to sound crazy on this matter, but i would like to suggest that you might want to read "The Sanctus Germanus prophecies" by Michael P. Mau. It might just surprise you what you learn in there. It's on course it seems. I find it hard to relate to the spiritual sense of what the book en tales, however the meat of what is being relayed is very, how would you say, exact. I think a recession is an understatement.

The book mentioned above was released in 2003.

I know, because i got a copy when it was first released. it kind of intrigued me so to speak. And here everyone thought i was a NEOCON. Jesus.

I think it is a gross overly optimistic statement. The USA is headed for a great depression. The only area of the economy that will be growing will be the military industrial complex.

We will know by mid October one way or another ...

Ron Paul is the only hope to avoid this, but his brand of politics could be illegal soon.

I hope I am wrong.

Public opinion can often cause or end a recession. In an election year this always seems to be a last ditch effort by one party to undermine the other with blame for it. When people change spending habits due to an unfounded fear that same fear becomes an iminent reality. These analysts and economists with all their training should focus on solutions rather than predictions.

Well if its true, it will be a first for a country in war (not on his territory I mean) to enter a recession... This means something wrong is going on somewhere...
Also, I don't mind to enter a recession, as I could sell my antiques at higher price... Those always do goods, when entering a recession... ;)

On a long enough timeline, the survival rate for everyone drops to zero.

What we are experiencing is a correction after 5 years of continuous rises, triggered by the sub prime loan greed and fear.

The fed has many weapons up its sleeve and will not allow a recession. Meryll Lynch analysts come 13 to the dozen. Within one month, the stock market will be where it was before this fall.
