Here's what I was taught by my family and mentors:
Make the investment in a small, easy-to-read paperback: "The Richest Man in Babylon" by George S. Classon.
You don't have to read the entire book at one sitting. Make the promise and commitment to yourself to read just 5 pages each day.
Since you invested the money, you can do as you want with the book. As you read, mark-up and write in your book; highlight those sentences, paragraphs and chapters with pen and/or yellow highlighter which impress you and are important to you.
Follow the book's principles.
This is true not only for this book, but any book you invest in.
Happy Holidays! Thanks for asking your Q! I enjoyed answering int!

Investing in what ever investment vehicle is a very personalized preference. What works for one may not work for others.
What I would suggest is to get educated in the the field of investment. Be it in stocks, property, bonds, insurance or just plain fixed deposits. Understand how each vehicle works. You will be better to start with the right education.
You will have to evaluate the risk and rewards for each and everyone of the possibilities. Then you may need to do studies on the related field that you are comfortable until you are comfortable to invest. Always start small and test the water!
You may also consider engaging the professional in the particular field to check how they can help you to maximize your investment. In this scenario always consider the risk/reward ration and again always start small. |

all accounts are much the same.... accounts for 3 years with long notice periods will give u more interest..... short periods ... low interest.... just look around. no one will be able to give u that much advice..... its upto to look around... as say accounts nowadays are much the same.... and interest differences are small! meaning a litterally a few pounds over the year.... its minimal |

Put it in the bank until you have a chance to read and educate yourself about investing. Find a bank account or CD with a good interest rate (at least 4%) and put it there. Then spend the next 6-9 months reading books from your library about personal finance and investing.
You may find that paying off some debt is best for you. You may find that opening an IRA is best. Or maybe making a downpayment on a home is the best investment. Then again maybe putting it in the stock market and index funds is best. Everyone's needs are different and no one can tell you exactly what's best for you, but you can get guidance. I suggest books by Suze Orman or Jane Bryant Quinn. Personal Finance for Dummies and Investing for Dummies are good books, too. |

Invest in long term low risk mutual funds. How this works is they will invest your money into a bunch of blue chip stocks (blue chip is a term for fortune 100 companies like Microsoft, IBM, AT&T). The returns will be greater than guareenteed intrest funds, certificates or bonds. If you see a drop in your porfolio don't panic, you have too stay in for the long hall.
Try T.Rowe Price as an online investment firm.
