A lot of investors have already panicked and sold. The market did reach 20% off its' highs already. You investment is only down 13%. Considering you are just now asking about "what should I do", hold onto what you have, you missed the sell in December 2007. We are now in a bottoming process. Bottoms usually come when there is a lot of fear/panick in the markets. There is only bad news being reported. I have started going long again. |

The entire market is down 10% for the first quarter. Long term is the only term. |

Nothing, if you're investing for the long term. |

Mutual fund investments are for long term, 3 months is short term, The entire market has declined in the past 3 months, therefore most funds have followed,
Mutual funds, being long term investments, should be checked for value periodically.
If you feel uncomfortable about this or any investment you should get out of it and not be an investor in these types of products. If you're going to worry or loose sleep over something that is normal, get out.
Most people buy funds for the long term and don't worry about short term drops in value |

You didn't specify the fund nor what your investment goals were so I don't know if the fund you chose fits your risk or time horizon. Losing 10 or 11% in 3 months is not unusual since the market is down a lot. That is why investing in the stock market, whether it is in a stock mutual fund, EFT or individual stocks are for the long term. If they were safe and predictable everyone would buy them instead of CDs.
EFTs really have the same risk as their corresponding mutual fund cousins but tend to have slightly lower expenses. Individual stocks are significantly riskier. General Electric a blue chip stock lost 12% in a day! when it announced lower earning recently.
So, if you plan to have this money invested for more than 5 years then you proably shouldn't worry. Markets go up and down and everyone loves to buy when the market is hot and hates to buy when the market is low. So they buy high and sell low. Just what you shouldn't do. Everyone wanted to buy houses a few years ago and would bid more than the asking price. Now the prices of houses are down 10 to 20% and people don't want to buy. |

Consider your investing goal..is it long term or short term?
Also, take this market swing as a learning experience...never wait for 'the pros' to tell you when to move your assets...
I moved my funds from an all stock position to a liquid money market account literally just before the market nose dived...
Given your current situation, it would be advantageous to invest more into your mutual fund ONLY if the fees are the lowest amoung fund families and you've refreshed yourself of the fund's investment objectives |

I hope all the mutual fund maniacs who say they are ultra safe read your post. They certainly can lose a lot of their value.
This is what I would do. This is me, you make up your own mind and do your own research.
I would consider shifting my investments from mutual funds to ETF's or a DRIP Plan.
Best of Luck |

Ouch! Chalk this one up as a learning experience, like individual stocks you can lose money in mutual funds. A loss this big will also take you years to recover.
Listen to Don, these people are fools who still want you to buy more shares of these loser funds. The only ones who are making any money from these things are the fund companies.
GE is one of many stocks that this fund holds, GE stock also pays a yield of 3.90% which is $1.24 a year for each share. Now this fund that you have your money invested in has allot more companies that pay more or less of a yeild. Now take your return you get yearly? Yes it is shared with all the fund holders but it is still very poor.
As far as transfering to another fund? You will be suprise to see allot of the funds have the same stocks in them. So dont think you chaseing a winner, because the smart people are selling while you are buying. |
