Of course your dad was joking. Did you ever find his cash in the family fridge ? Just invest it wisely in the best accounts possible |

Just a saying but good advice, save your money for a rainy day! There is another one for ya. |

 |
he's joking! you dont need to refrigerate your money to have a cold cash. |

Literally this would be bad advice. Cash depreciates and currency gets recalled so that over time it would loose value. Figuratively, this could be very sound advice. Cash enables you to offer sellers immediate gratification. As the saying goes, "In a recession, cash is king." So in that circumstance, having cash on hand is a very good thing. |

does dad have a paranoia about banks kinda like putting your money under your bed, he may also mean have some cash on hand always in case you need to make a quick evacuation in case of say a hurricane like Louisiana,or any other natural disaster where banks/computers may be down. |

Yes, no, maybe! It could be a joke. But, it may be a good safe place to hide money. I not think a Thief would be looking there except to get a cold Beer. But, you never know, the Thief may want some Cold "Lettuce"! |
