open ended question.

Many places to invest this money but you need to make sure you are financially secure before investing it.

If you don't have 6 months of money saved up for bills in the bank you may not want to invest this money. Instead you may want to do a Money Market Account which will earn better interest then your traditional savings account and your money will only be typically a week away if something should happen (or you can write checks against it in most types of accounts).

If you are secure, There are really two options, Stocks and Mutual Funds.

I typically suggest that you pick stocks based on items that you and people you know use on a daily basis. If you use it others are as well.

As far as stocks go:
If you eat at McDonalds for instance you are earning yourself money while eating their food. If you use Palmolive soap in your kitchen, then Colgate-Palmolive could be a good stock.

As far as Mutual Funds go:
I would also suggest that you pick your fund based on what you know/use. However, with a fund you can choose to be aggressive or slow growth depending on your age and once again your financial situation.

The more research you do up front will save you time/money in the future.

Do you have any interest debts? Things like credit cards, cars, home mortgage, student loans, etc. If you have those types of debts you'd be much better served paying them off than investing.

Dude, how old are you? If you are young and don't have too much money, why put money into an IRA? If you are young, then life changes a lot and if you need to graduate from college, get married, find a career, a new place to live, then tying your money up in an IRA is a really dumb answer.

Go ahead! Rate me down!

I graduated from college a few years ago and I put my money foolishly into an IRA. Bad decision because I did all of those things I mentioned and I sure could have used that money but it was tied up. Now I have credit card debt that I need to work out even though I have a nice retirement that I can't touch for another 25 years! Get settled and then get an IRA after you pay off Credit cards and loans.

I say invest it into some stocks. Now is the perfect time to invest because many of these clowns are too scared of the turbulence. Turbulence creates buying opportunities and when things smooth out, you win a lot more. Don't wait or you will miss the bus. Just be sure that you are careful and think out your purchases.
For stocks, I like PFE. They are super cash heavy and pay out 5.60% dividends. That is a very safe in

I would not invest on the stock market this year,

I think that it is going to be a highly volitale year,

Oil prices and the election could casue fluxuation.

I would stick with a bank, CD, no risk, guaranuteed 4% return

EDit, I noticed the top person said roth ira, that is a good answer too.

$so fresh so clean$
Make sure you have an emergency fund. Put about $500 in a high yield money market account. Then, take $1500 and put into a Roth IRA or a stock mutual fund (growth or income fund.)
