trading stock is just like you managing a business. you need certain amount of money to cover operational cost (fees and charges) and in case of emergency. in fact, you need sufficient amount of money for proper asset allocation. having said that, you need that amount of money to implement effective stock trading strategies; either to stop losses, buying more units or moving from one stock to another. |

$500 is enough but the commssion will take a higher percentage out of your trade. If the market is going up, it's hard mnot to make money. Throwing a dart at a list of stocks (and buying the one it landed on) has beaten the pros so don't think you need a lot of knowledge. |

You can't do much with only $500. But, you CAN invest!
You'll have to ask someone with a crystal ball whether or not you'll make money! There are no sure things! |

sure you can. i started out with $500.00 and now i have over $5,000. i never put any more money other my orginail 500.it took about 3 years or so but it can be done.
just buy 2,3 small micro-cap companies. make sure they are fundamentailly sound companies. i look at companies on the AMEX and NASDAQ CAPITAL MARKETS.
you can buuy them at $1.00 to $2.00 a share range. i bought DXPE for $1.09 back in 2001 it is now at $30.92 a share. it was higher then that.
buy a 100 shares of each stock and sell 50 when it doubles in price. leave the other 50 shares alone to run. take the money from the sell of 50 and buy shares in a different company. |

Here is what you have to understand:
Most stocks, unless you are gambling in penny stocks, trade between 10-20 per share or more.
When you BUY stocks, you typically buy in lots of 100 shares.
Mathematically $500 is not enough to start out to start "trading". Stock brokers want people with serious money to open accounts. |

If this is all the extra money you have, buying stocks is not a good idea. Any financial planner will tell you to keep 3 months salary in a savings account for emergencies. There are no guarantees that you will make money on stocks. Mutual funds are safer but the earnings are also lower. I would recommend you look at some investing websites like www.fool.com, www.youngmoney.com/investing; or www.suzeorman.com |

$500 is enough but not very good. You are not likely to make money in this endeavor.
Take your $500 and find something you can purchase cheap, fix or clean it up, and sell it on eBay. But do your homework 1st. The stock market is still a faster way to lose all your money. Buy if you are not paying attention you can lose your money just as fast on eBay.
You might be happier if you just buy yourself something you want. |
