Very difficult to move up in this field. Lots of routine work daily which becomes boring and at the same time a very precise and demanding job. You have to pay close attention on every transaction. If you like detail work go for it.

Why dont you check out the banks own web-sites which mostly all have Recruitment sections detailing the entry requirements?

I am a banker of types I suppose.
The work banker relates to anyone who works for a bank from the teller in your local branch to the highest earning fund manager working in the city to the person who works in the fraud department. Working for a bank can offer endless opportunity and variety to you.
Qualifications needed depend on the job you go for. Remember you can always start at the bottom and work your way up.
I started as a teller, then became a Banking Adviser opening accounts and loans and credit cards and insurances, then done my Banker's CeFa qualificatons to become a financial adviser advising on investments, pensions, inheritance tax, life assurance etc.. My next step will probably be into Area Management.
To be taken on as a teller it is necessary to have some GCSEs /Standard Grades and A levels/Highers will be looked upon favourably - you do need some academic ability. The most important things are to have common sense, be articulate, friendly and approchable.
