FutureGuy | Quit School? or $$$$$$$$? |
Don't we go to school to become some one To Make Money?
I'm majoring Mechanical Engineering and I'm in my second year. Honestly, I'm always the #1 student in all my classes! However, I like to do business. I have this great business idea that would make me $12K when I'm just 20 years old. And I can say that 90% it would happen if I start.
I don't wanna study hard and then work for some one else and still worry about my bills and life.
I'm going to put school away for a semester and get started in my business idea. Do you think I should do it? Additional Details $12,000.00 for each month. And that's just for the start.
The reason I think I should do it now is that I still have my dad and I can go back to him if I dont make it. but in 4 or 5 years it would all be me alone probably. |

No one on this website, or anywhere for that matter can answer your question...only you can. I read an amazing book in high school that changed my life, called Rich Dad, Poor Dad, by Robert Kiyosaki. It explains the 4 types of people in this world; employees, investors, business people, and self-employed.
The facts are that the majority of people go to school to graduate, and get a good "high-paying" job with benefits. In essence you will become an employee to earn money for someone else and never have the GUARANTEE of keeping that job. The average college graduate makes somewhere in the range of $35,000. In addition, most schools will not teach you how to manage finances, build a successful company, or make investments.
People who want to take charge of their life and financial future proceed into the Business and investor categories and it is not always necessary to graduate from college to pursue this path...Look at Michael Dell, Bill Gates, etc...There are countless entrepreneurs who have dropped out of school to pursue their dreams and ideas, but for everyone of them, there are also those who haven't succeeded.
With that said though, if you truly have a good business idea, why do you have to drop out of school to pursue it? Someone as talented as yourself shouldn't waste the two+years you have already put into your collegiate education. At least transfer to a community college and get an AA degree so you can walk away with something (have something to fall back on). Why not pursue your business while still in school; maybe your grades will suffer, but what does it matter if you are doing what you love, making money, and still getting the "education" that most in our society deem necessary?
Only you can decide what is the best decision, but I truly believe it would be stupid to waste the time and effort you have already put into it to just drop out of school. Drop out once you become a millionaire!
best of luck. |

You should have something to fall back on. These days nothing is for certain, but a good business idea doesn't always need education first, however, as a college student I'm sure you realize how important that education is. The education is something to fall back on. Instead of having to go back to school later the smart thing would be to finish your education while slowly starting your business on the side if possible. That way you have both. Obviously, you are the only one who can make this decision so just think it through and don't regret the decision you make no matter which one it is. That's living!

Ok here is what i would do. I would make the business, and take clases in a part-time bases. Heres the reason why:
~ Without any information i asume you have been convinces in a business that depends on sales and MLM. Trust me been there im a Civil Engineer.
~You are old enough to see if it will work out or not, but you depend on you folks and they will threaten you that if you leave your on your own.
In conclusion a 2nd year mech. eng. student cannot acurately determine how much he estimates to make with out someone telling him how much a similar idea made in the past. |

You should never rely on someone to fall back on, even if it is your father.. Why can't you finish school and then still work towards your own business idea while you're making money from someone else? And you can't guarantee that you will have a successful business idea. Even if you study hard and end up working for someone else at first, there are things called promotions to people that deserve it and then eventually people could be working for you. Whatever you choose though, good luck! |

$12 K isn't much to live on, so unless your business would drastically improve over a reasonable period of time, or unless you can do it on the side of your college classes, I wouldn't do it.
What's your business idea? |

My comment is this...
If you can make 12K PER MONTH for even a couple of years,
then put college on hold.
Keep in mind, though, that when you have your own business you have to file taxes every quarter, every three months, and you are required to pay your own full Social Security taxes. (15%)
PAY YOUR QUARTERLY INCOME TAX AND YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY TAX! DO NOT GET BEHIND! The penalties and fees will eat up your profits!
And put some aside for college for later! Don't spend it all!
I dropped out of college and, after a couple of years, had my own business. It was great for almost 3 years. I had a "niche" that I was filling and no one else was doing what I did. But after almost 3 years, the "dot coms" caught on, and I lost most of my customers to big businesses that had discovered the niche that I was filling.
So now, I work for someone else.
I still make a lot more than most college graduates.
We are a single income family with 3 kids and we are doing well. But I always regret not going back and finishing my degree.
(I WILL! One day!)
But if you have found a way to make $12,000 per month, I say GO FOR IT! Pay your taxes and put enough away to go back to school and finish in the next few years and you should be fine.
By the way, I currently work for a Small Business and the owner dropped out of High School, later got his GED, and never even attended college! And he is a multi-millionaire. |

stick with school bro its not worth it to quit on an idea that might make it when your guaranteed money with just a few more years of school. |
