the s0urce | Recession? Probable or Unlikely? |
The stock market crashed harshly today, the dow jones industrial average down 370 Dollars ( 2.93 %) People thought that stocks were recovering after the recent drops, but today was terrible, do you think Recession is Probable and will this new plan to give every American Family 1500 dollars help, or just put the Country into a deeper debt ? Quote from Yahoo Finance "Wall Street plunged Tuesday, driving the Dow Jones industrials down 370 points after investors saw an unexpected contraction in the service sector as evidence the economy is sinking into recession."
Recession- Probable? or Unlikely? Additional Details Some idiot say to check out the stock market? Umm.. Can you read? This question was based on the stock market, if you want to answer my question read through the entire thing. Thanks. |

Usually by the time they say we're in a recession we've already been in one for several months. That's the way it happens historically. It wouldn't suprise me if that happened again this time. |

yes we are in recession
and for an investor, the next couple months is what you need to focus on to get the stock you like for the next 4-5 years for a good gain |

Yes, because nobody is buying anything to keep the market moving along. When people get scared, they don't spend. They'll put more money into an older car, stay in the house they are in and hope they keep their job. They also vacation less and travel less, stay home more and generally try to keep costs down at all levels. Who knows where it will end but I am sure everyone has seen signs of cutting back in the state they live in. |

Who cares? Ride it out. Buy and hold. stop worrying about short term yields. |

It is almost unbelievable how everyone is hyperventalating over the thought that the U S might fall into a recession. Like there has never been a recession before or something. Actually, recessions are good for the economy. They shake out the dead wood. Maybe everyone is worried that the economy is nothing but dead wood any longer. Maybe I should give that possibility some consideration.
Yes, we are going into a recession. I doubt there are any longer any reasonable doubts left on that question. We are probably already in one. If you don't believe that check out the stock market. |

Very likely. We have the crash of housing markets, weakening of USD, the up-coming post war depression, credit problems....too many all at once. |

probable - too many negative factors in the economy, stock market is one indicator but home sales (new and existing), and job growth (lack of) are all pointing in the wrong direction. |

Where I live the amount of small businesses closing and all the people in danger of losing their house is insane. We are in a recession. It's no longer a matter of when but what to do about it. |

Recession - pre-existing...
no the cash will probably be used primarily to pay off old debt, which will not fuel the economy at all... |
