Talk to a financial planner. Safety depends on the guaranteeing institution and has a strong relationship with the time frame you will need.
Ppl, safety is the primary concern here and you're saying 'buy large cap??' Is Warren Buffet's primary investment objective safety? A good financial advisor will be worth way more than what a conservative client like TreSec pays them. |

The safest way would be certificates of deposit, but this will take almost 15 years at today's rates of around 5%.
If you are willing to take more risk of volatility, you could put the money into a stock market index fund, which could get the million in less than 6 years, at a return of 12%. |

to answer your question
i would`NT worry about a recession in my thinking it`ll take a lot of things for this to happen and if you` diversified and have good paying stocks preferable dividend paying stock id enroll in a program if they have it called a drip or reinvestment repurchase plan so you don't have to pay commissions on there stocks |

Investing in stocks, mutual funds, or index funds will not provide you a guaranteed return on your investment over years to come. You need to hire someone to manage your funds or do it your self. If you are going to do it your self, invest in ETFs, in current growth areas, to reduce your susceptibility to individual stock movements. Keep a watch full on their movements. I am in the same situation and am trying to change my $500K to $1M in 5 years by doing 15%/year. The safety in CDs will only help to match inflation. |

Give that money to the best bank robbers you can find.
Seriously though, a Financial Advisor at your local bank, for eg, can tell you which areas are having significant growth periods at the moment. The Stock market, Currency or Commodity market are popular investments. Blue Chip stocks get the odd mention. Mining Companies do well, then there's the housing market. With more people looking and less properties around, managing to secure an investment portfolio could be very advantageous. With more people looking to rent than ever, people are finding many offers to rent the premises.
Ask an advisor or research the current climate with regards to investments. Find stats for certain areas from recent times until now, and see what growth they have made. |
