Look into Silver you can buy it from APMEX.com in ingots. Trading at 18.70 can buy for about 19.00/ ingot. Tangible asset you can hold on to.

Check into places like Sharebuilder or ScottTrade and set up an account. Invest in dividend producing stocks and stick with the DRIP and reinvest that money back into the company. Companies you know and have been around for a while. Check into Med companies like Pfizer and Johnson&Johnson. Rubbermaid, Ingersol Rand, Merck, on and on do the research you will find them.

Place 1K in a money market account or in small to mid cap no load mutual fund.

If you placed 1K in silver, 3K in diversified stocks (sectored with medical, tech, consumer goods, etc...) and 1K in Money Market or Mutual Fund you will be very well diversified and set for most anything. Set aside 100.00 for fees and/or shipping charges.

I was just coming back to this post and see I have four down thumbs. That's too bad, diversifying your portfolio with something that is going to make compound interest, offset with risk stock or dividend stocks with a DRIP and a tangible asset such as Silver that rises as the dollar drops is sound financial advice.

Silver is trading at 19.76/ounce that is up $1.00 from three days ago. Yeah bad advice.... LOL to the bank....

Christa, investing overseas is the best choice.

If you don't know any successful business to invest in then the best and safest investment is putting your $5,000 into a high-yield account overseas at 12% per annum compounded annually.

Contact me for more details.

Best of luck!

I would recommend something guaranteed. Alcohol and tabaco investments always have a good return. If your moraly ok with destoying peoples lives.

Hello Christa,
I would look at some ETFs that are out there. Look for something where you can spread your Risk across multiple countries. For example, there is an ETF (FNI) that tracks both China and India markets...so I would put money in something like that...
just my 2 cents.
Good Luck!

The Forex market is very risky. I personally would not recommend it.

Look into Retirement funds, ETF's , DRIP Plans

Good Luck

One of the best options, in my opinion, for investors who do not have a lot of money, is DRIP Plans.

They are seldom talked about because brokers make very little money when they suggest them. Yet, they have proven to be one of the best, if not the best, long-term strategy on Wall Street.

The best part is you get solid annual returns from well-known, safe Blue Chip companies like: McDonalds, General Electric, Pfizer, Walmart, US Bancorp.......etc........

They are inexpensive to start and maintain, and your dividends are reinvested for free.

They are perfect for small investors, as well as big investors. They are safe and allow you to not care about whether the market is going up or down.

Good Luck

SERIOUS QUESTION DESERVES A SERIOUS ANSWER.

Try to get some VISA shares before the shares hit the market for $40 a piece. VISA is highly expected to catch up to mastercard. People are desparate for shares in VISA and it should really drive the price up. Expect it to sell it in 1 year for $80 a piece or in 2 years for $160.

BTW, what's your plan on investing in the Foreign Exchange Market? Will you short/long the USD? or let a money manager handle your money for 20% profit split? I am an interday forex trader. Let me tell you, if you plan to invest that money using leverage. Expect to lose it all. I still trade the Forex market, but when I first started, I blew many accounts. Play with care.

it is very smart, if you know what you are doing.

You should invest in the stock market. If you chart patterns you can make a killer.
