Share Trading is gambling or business?

muncie birder
There is some elements of both in share trading. Every investment you make is essentually a gamble. You are gambling that management are not thieves or incompetents, which unfortunately many time they are. You are gambling that the economy will not drop like a rock. You are gambling that the government will not pass some law that will make your investments worthless.

It is a business in that you are making business decisions on where your money should be invested. You are weighing the relative merits of alternatives and deciding which is best. Or at least you should be.

Much of business is a gamble - you take a risk anytime you start a new business. I think if you put some hard work and research into your investing decisions, then you reduce risk - you make it less of a gamble and more of a business.

If you are considering investing, I think the first thing to do is see what the best traders are buying and selling and why. This is the idea behind the site http://www.top10traders.com - this is a free site that lets you create a portfolio of stocks with $100,000 in "play" money. Each day the site ranks the best performing portfolios, so you can see how your picks perform compared to other investors. You can also read posts on investing from the best traders, as well as share your own investing ideas.

Here are this month's best traders:

Hope this helps.

It is actually more like a business, I don't think of it as gambling at all. You are buying a piece of a company, just like you are buying a product, that you believe will gain value over time and can be sold at a higher price to someone else. This sounds like a business to me.

There are many many people who trade for a living, it is highly unlikely that anyone gamble for a living.

For a sincere trader it is business with an element of risk (as in gambling) in it.

It belongs on trader and trading manner. Some are trading like real businessmen and some are trading like gamblers
