If we short sell some shares, when is the deadline to buy back?? Also, when we short sell, whose shares are we borrowing from?

I think the deadline is arranged between you and the broker, whom you're buying the shares from for which in the future you hope to purchase them back for a lower price. It's really for the pros if you ask me. |

1) There is no deadline. You can wait until you are dead if you want.

This explains it clearly. There is no time limit but do be aware that shorts sales are done in a margin account so there most likely be margin interest.

you are borrowing your shares from the original owner, and you sell them right the way, and when price of these shares fall ... you buy back your "borrowed shares" and return them to the original owner of these shares! there is no exact deadline for short selling. |

when is the deadline to buy back?? - There is no "deadline to buy back
whose shares are we borrowing from - The firm that is carrying your account has available to them 2 major supplers for stock 1-their in house margin accounts, they will use excess stock. 2- they can contacts on the street who they call on.- many are either clearing firms or firms with large margin accounts. 3-they may have a list of their cash account customers who have requested or given approval to lend stock.

why not do it on a cfd? Or roll it. Sell T+15, or T=20 then on day 19, buy T+1 and sell T+20. That gives you 40 days, how long do you want? Write a long call option? |
