If you can't afford any risk to principle those are the best options. Anything else and you are speculating. |

Building society or equivalent easy access account paying highest interest. Don't try and be too clever if you need all of the cash in 12monts time. Maybe a Gilt or corporate bond (AAA) but you may find the charges outweigh the advantage over a short period. If you are in UK no CGT on gilts (held for year & 1 day?) You could buy a gilt with very little accrued interest (Just ex-div) and sell it full of interest. This is technically bond washing but if it's not too large and you only do it once..... |

Not knowing how much of windfall you have, nor what is your intended use, nor who else will be involved in the intended use, I can not recommend anything specific, nor would any other reputable knowledgeable person working in this industry give you a definitive response.
Until all that information is availabe, it would be in your best interest to pruchase Treasuries or purchase CDs. These are investment acceptable to all regulators and those in the legal profession.
