Should I bail out of the stock market now?
My broker says's it's going to 11,000 by the end of September.

I'd get a new broker. Anyone that thinks they can call the market that accurately is likely trying to sell you something you dont need. That being said, its very hard to predict right now. The subprime mess is having an effect, but bear in mind- we were at 11,000 just a few months ago. Are you really losing that much by going back to where you were a few months ago? Also, it depends on what you are holding. If you're holding stocks that are getting hammered by the subprime, then it might be a bad time to sell, because so many of them are oversold at this point, you'd be selling at the bottom of the market. If you are holding blue chip companies that dont have anything to do with subprime, then its a bad time to sell. But if you're holding a company that might get caught in the subprime mess soon but hasnt yet, then I'd sell. It really comes down to what you are holding more than anything, and realize this for what it is- its becoming to buy things on sale. Good luck.

This depends on your time horizon. If your time horizon is short, then get out ... you should have never been in the stock market in the first place. If your time horizon is long, then purchase more stocks.

Why would you wait till after a pair of shoes has gone off sale to then purchase them? Why is it any different for stocks? Why do you want to get out when stocks are becoming more cheap?

Brokers are salespeople. They generate profit by instilling greed and fear into the investing public, which induces investors to churn their portfolios ... with each buy or sell he makes money, no matter if you do or not. Don't use your broker as a financial advisor.

NO NO NO. The worst time to get out is when you are sitting on a loss. Hopefully you are invested in reputable stocks. Check out how they have performed over the last five years. You can do this on yahoo finance if you have the stock symbols. I also would not work with a broker. Brokers get paid for trades and don't care if you gain or lose money. Instead find a great and reputable certified financial planner. His only job is to protect your investment because he gets paid if your portfolio increases in value.

If you are skittish about being in the stock market you should wait until the current uncertainty blows over and set a target to sell your stock when it reaches a specific level after gaining all of your losses back.

I will be buying up all of the stocks that you guys sell. EVERYTHINGS GOING ON SALE!!!! YAY!!!!! Look at the market for the last 70 YEARS. It may go down a little from time to time but it always heads up and up and up. Hold on to what you have and if the market drops that much by september........ Buy much much more.

No, no, a thousand times, no.

Sure if times get rocky, you might always want to adjust your overall asset allocation to make it a little less risky. But bailing out means you get out when the market is typically already down. You compound a problem rather than fix it. Wait it out and in the long-term you will be in a better position than if you constantly move in and out, racking up commissions for your broker and cashing out after you've already lost your chips.

You need a new broker. This is a market correction, and the feds will be dropping interest rates in the next quarter. Everyone who sold after the e-market dropped lost out big. Those who stayed in and ride out the storm saw tremendous profits.

It's small investors that cause more problems when they sell out. It only reduces share prices, and then larger investors pick them up at low prices and they reap the rewards.

I think your broker is almost right. The Dow 12,300 by the end of the year,
Where there is smoke, there is fire.
It will take atleast till 2012 to get back to 14,000 for the Dow

Before all of you makes a judgement on me wait and see

I cashed in half my portfolio last week and will probably move the rest of it around this week. Markets have only begun to dive. Liquidity drying up fast.
