JS57 | Should I be buying shares in climate exchange and solar energy? |

Whatever you do, don't listen to Erik. He claims "The companies that are producing the solar energy cells are not good investments, YET." Obviously, he hasn't seen a chart of First Solar:
http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=FSLR&t=1y
I man not know everything, but generally when a company is up over 700% in one year, I'd consider that to be a good investment!
However, I'm a little scared of anything that's up that high. There are plenty of other solar names and solar related stocks out there, though, check these out: SPWR, ENER, ESLR, EMKR, WFR, HOKU, SOLF, SPIR.
If just one stock is too risky for you, then check out some of the alt. energy ETFs. I personally invest in GEX, which has solar power companies and also wind and others.
Going green is a sea change, probably the biggest investment opprotunity that's out there! I think once we get a new president in the white house, a lot of the alternative energy names can really take off!
I'm not sure who does business in the climate exchange industry. If you know of anyone, I'd like to hear though! |

With the growing demand for renewable energy due to high oil cost, Americas desire to become less dependant on politically unstable countries for its energy and global climate change. Alternative energy has a very strong future.
The major driver of solar energy generating costs is the capital cost of installing the solar system. More than 50% of total cost of the system is the photovoltaic (PV) module. As solar demand ramps up and manufacturers of PV modules are able to increase their production, the cost at which they can produce PV modules has been declining.
It’s estimated that every 100% increase in the production of PV modules results in a 20% decline in cost. The same thing happened with personal computers and semiconductors in the 1980’s and 90’s.
I personally would not have bought shares in Intel or Microsoft in the 1980’s so you make the call should you invest in Alternative energy or not? |

i dont know much about buying shares but... anything they say about climate is b/s and solar energy is way too expensive!! at least for the time being. They're currently researching a new solar sphere thing that has crazy efficiency.... i'd imagine that it would get more popular but not for a long time. |

My best investment over the past year was the puchase of a lot of unleaded fuel, 40,000 gallons. It has made me almost $500,000. |

Buy gold. |

gold is a good idea as someone already said or other inflation proof finite materials. if you want to go the environmental route try a company called power film that produce a flexible solar power material. |

If you want to make money you should probaly invest in ethonal or oil, even though both are very bad for the environment. I would never do it, because I put my beliefs before money, but Exonn Mobil is making the most profit in the history of the world right now. |

Of course not. You should invest in companies that are using alternative energy. The companies that are producing the solar energy cells are not good investments, YET. |
