hawkeye | Should I buy Ford stock? |
Currently at 2.82 and i wish to buy some stock. Please give me some tips and tell me if I should or shouldn't. I hope to have this stock for about 1 or 2 years and a side question is what happens to shareholders if the company files bankruptcy? |

I've been buying stocks for 25 years. Semi-retired at 42. If auto go down any more I'm putting 7% of my portfolio there, Ford being my least fave. There is opportunity there, but to achieve it takes faith and discipline. I just traded out of GM, profitably, through some gut wrenching trading plays I don't recommend to the rookies, even I lost some sleep. I'm just greedy and crazy enough to try again too. Unless you know that you can lose it all and can recover, DON'T waste your money. |

Too much risk for my taste. It MIGHT do well. Ford's certainly the strongest of the Big 3. But investing in Ford right now is akin to buying a lottery ticket.
Side question: if they go bankrupt, shareholder equity will be completely wiped out. In other words you'd lose all your investment. |

no you should not because the market is unstable and well you need to be in it for the long hall you will probably loose money if you are just gonna be in it for 1-2 years |

If the company files bankruptcy, you're screwed. If Ford had any value, the pros would be scooping it up. But the pros are waiting to see what develops. I think you would be wise to look elsewhere. TRE looks like a potentially strong play. It needs to pull back a bit here or it needs to take out $4.75 to the upside. |

I wanted to buy ford stock back when it was @ $9 a share because I didn't think I would get any lower than that, I mean for christs sake its FORD, they made the MUSTANG! An all american car in a sense. How ever, look what the price is now. Any ways Take into consideration how the gov't had to bail out ATT back in the day and now look at how well that are doin now. It's a 50/50 chance of success in my book, just like everything else in life. |

Nah, I wouldn't. Looks like they might be heading towards bankruptcy. Wait until the first public offering right after their restructure is complete. |

NOOOO DEFINANTLY NOT! I live in Dearborn MI and live literally a 5min drive away from Ford Motor Company and we are updated about them hourly on the news, they are in a very bad situation right now, it's really not worth it, your money will do you more good somewhere else trust me. |

If you want to buy a stock go ahead and do it, provided you are ok with losing all of your investment. The worst that can happen in a stock goes to $0. In that case your investment has disappeared completely. That being said, it is unlikely that the company will completely fail. The government does not want these auto makers to go belly up. Also, it is unlikely that no other companies in the world would want to buy a failing Ford. If the government bailout for the auto industry works in any fashion, Ford could end up being a great buy. |

I would consider it a strong buy around the 2.60 to 2.70 area. Although, I beleive that this stock could be heading towards $4 in the short term. My best advise is to wait for a pullback. This stock will definately react to whatever the bailout news is. If its bad, it will be bad for Chrystler and GM, not really affecting Ford in the long run. There are rumors going around that they will try to stall the bailout until the end of the year, Chrystler will go bankrupt by that time, leaving F and GM as the new kings once more. But those are just rumors. I say buy but remember that you could lose it all and F could possibly go bankrupt along with GM. If you are weak of heart then stay on the sidelines. If you have balls, go for it but expect a pullback. Its up to you. Good Luck |
