Should I buy Sears or JCPenny stock?
You can find the financial info for the companies at finance.yahoo.com but what would you recommend based on the numbers (JCP, Sears Holding). Please help!

Personally I would not. These are two companies that cater to a lower income clients and are most likely to stuggle in tough economic times. Additionally with the advent of Target, Kohls, and Walmart, these two brands continue to struggle with their identity. Fundamentally I have big problems with the stocks' stories. I'd also stay away from retailers right now.

Now that said, a quick glance at some of the ratios would make them look very attractive right now, its entirely possible they could really run if the economy turns, I just take issue with the image and story of the stocks. I think there are better opportunities out there.

Neither, people are losing jobs, gas is high. People don't have extra money, so they're not going to shop. If you want retail, think about Walgreens or CVS pharmacy. People will always need cold pills, toliet paper and the other good stuff.

Not Sears (both Sears and Kmart (which is owned by Sears) are losing money.

Given that choice, JCP. But honestly, I would not buy either right now.

Laissez-Faire Guy
I agree Sears is not a good investment right now. They and their holding K-Mart have not been doing well, and have been burning through cash like crazy lately.

Never been a big fan of JC Penny either.

Personally, I like Costco Wholesale (COST) as a retail stock.

Where do you shop? and second question is how long are you planing to keep stock overall? everything is down now but might pick up in another 6 months and in another 6 years be doing great.
Mutual funds are good they give you about 10 12 large corporations and everything is evenly spread out.
You can go on line and see how the stats of each one is on yahoo finical.

neither, retail will be tough this year, between the two it wouldbe JCP. keep in mond though JCP was at 83 bucks a year ago, now it's $48. Kss their main competitor is right around the same, they have taken a abig hit, Gas prices and haome values will continue to be bad and that effects retail sales.
