For assets less than a couple of million USD, a global bond fund is probably overkill...although it does depend a bit on age and risk personality.

You should focus on the mix of bonds in the portfolio. Interest rates around the world are very low right now. As the economy recovers interest rates are likely to rise.
When interest rates rise, bond prices fall.
If the fund is relatively short, this may not change the NAV much. But if the fund is in long-dated bonds you likely will see a fall in the NAV. Yield, i.e. interest income might not be affected.
