Ann O. | Should I sell my mutual fund? |
I started with $1600 and never made any interest. I've now lost over $500. I'm not desperate for the money, but I don't want it all blown away either. |

The markets have very rarely had a negative return over 10, 15 or 20 years. If you aren't in need of the money immediately, ride it out. Give it at least another 3 months and things will start to stablize (it will still be rocky, but the markets won't be constantly dropping like they are now). After 3 months the affects of the bailout will actually kick in, and word will get out that the sky isn't falling and that the world isn't going to end. |

YOU have lost nothing; the paper value has gone down--not the
book value of the company itself that you have stock in. HOLD
onto your investment.
[or, find a local new business venture that needs a short
term infusion of cash, and give it to them from your MF. |

I am in the same boat. It is really hard to know what to do.
Partially, it depends on what fund you own that has not paid anything,
not all funds are great. Do you know what their cost ratio is?
And did you have to pay a commission to purchase it.
I am asking these questions because maybe that one isn't worth holding.
It isn't really to unusual for markets to fluctuate, but they are more wild
than usual right now. I expect the market will be back up within 5 years.
So if your fund is good, it will come back too. Still it is possible that we have
not reached bottom as yet. |

I've lost alot more than you. Don't sell it cause if you do then you lock in your losses. Hold onto it and invest more as the prices go down so that you can take advantage of the situation when everything starts going back up. |

You never made any interest? Where is it.
I lost 40% of my 401(K) value. I leave it alone. And I suggest you do likewise. Leave it alone or talk with someone in financing. |

I would keep it.
I have 4 mutual funds and they have lost a TON of value, but i am not selling. NO WAY am i selling.
If you sell, you lose. If you hold, you will eventually win.
Now, if you were talking about an individual stock, or even a few stocks, that's a different story. But since u have a mutual fund, you really should hold it until it comes back. If the performance of this fund is WAY less than other similar funds, you should still hold it until this crazy market settles down and you at least break even, because selling now would be a horrible idea. |

ride it out - it is not enough money to worry too much over if you did lose it but there is a chance some funds will pull through in time though down now. |
