Bill Q | Should I sell now or will this bear market rally last longer? |

The Dow has been rallying for 78 years. (see chart below) I wouldn't put any of MY money on that changing dramatically any time soon! |

If you're not a day-trader, it is a little too early (or too late!) to sell now. The time to sell was back between July 20 - July 24, depending on which index you were looking at. Now, the only reason to sell is if you need the money to spend in the next week or two. If you're in the market for the long-run, then you should do nothing, as the bull is not dead, just yet.
Expect the stock market to go lower as the bad news in the credit market sinks in. What may very well happen is a rotation to large cap growth (already happening) and away from financial stocks, home builders and small caps. If you have stocks in one of those sectors/asset class, sell on a rally. |

We are not in a bear market.
In fact, the Dow Jones Industrial Average crossed the 14,000 barrier for the first time a month ago. |

Who said we're in a bear market? This could be just a setback in a continuing bull market. Or maybe it is a bear market. My point is that stock market investors should have a longer term view. As long as you have confidence in the company(ies) or fund(s) you own and believe that the overall economy will trend upward over the long term, then it's best not to try and "guess" when it's best to sell. |

i believe that the iraq situation stabilizing soon, gas prices getting better, and a fiscally responsible president being elected to office will excite the market. If i were you, i'd hold on (especially if you don't need the money immediately for anything specific).
True about the Dow. If the last 70-some years were a rally, what were the last 10 year? An explosion. |

Do you think anyone really knows that answer? Over time stock markets have risen. Sometimes when markets go down they bounce back quickly and sometimes it takes years. That is why only money that you don't expect to need within 5 years or so should not be in the market. |
