Should I stop contributing to my IRA as of this time while the stocks are plummeting?
Retirement funds are dwindling because of recent economic crisis. I am 31 years old. Funds are with edward jones. Need opinion. Thanks Additional Details i am 31 years old. IRA funds are dwindling due to recent economic crisis. Should I stop contributions, say for 6 months, instead of continuing to contribute and end up losing money. Maybe I should just keep the cash for the meantime and add it later on. edward jones manages my IRA. Need opinion. Thanks.
This is the best time to put money into your IRA. You'll be getting great prices for your shares! That's how the best investors do it!
Edward Jones is one of the few decent full service brokers out there. Speak to your broker. Not strangers whose qualifications and motives can never be known.

just don t give up it a long term investment and the stock market will turn around no put more money in it

If you stop now you give up more money in the long term. An IRA is a long term investment. It doesnt matter what the makret is doing now. When pries are low your money buys more. Dont try to time the market. And dont invest for the long term with a short term view.

If you have been continuously putting money into your account for your long term investments you can't stop just because the market is down.
If you truely have a long term perspective this is the time to be buying.

When stock prices are down is THE BEST TIME TO BUY!
Why wait for the market to recover, and then buy fewer stocks for the same amount of money you want to invest???

Since you are very young it wouldn't hurt to stop.
