Dean77 | Should you factor in the cost of the trade? |
do you include, say £12, when looking at shares?
should this be included when looking at the numbers? |

When actively trading anything, one must ALWAYS factor in trading costs such as commissions and fees. |
|

Tertia

not on the cost of an individual share. But if you are trading small amounts (less than £500 say) then fees will eat a bigger slice of your profits. |

If you're talking about commissions, yes, it should be factored into the trade when figuring out gains/losses. It's part of the cost to acquire the shares. |

You always have to consider the cost of the shares after paying commissions, as well as the value when selling, after commissions.
For instance, if you bought 100 shares @ $1 ea (I'm using dollars, but it's the same process in whatever currency), and paid a commission of $24. That means your total cost was $1.24 per share.
Now, when you come to sell, and you see the shares are worth $1.50 ea (woohoo, a 50% increase!), but after paying that same $24 commission, you will only receive $126, or $1.26 per share. Suddenly it doesn't seem like such a great time to sell, does it?
So yes, you always have to keep the selling or buying commission in mind. |

looking? no - you can add sales commissions when you buy to your cost and subtract them when you sell to get your net cost and sales |
