Stay away from them. Their fees are much too high and most can't beat the DOW or S & P. Your money is locked in. The US dollar is falling like a meteorite. Do your own studies and learn how to invest. You will be much better off. There are many free investment companies which will send you a free email every day. from there you can follow links and get more.

Vanguard.com is ideal for long term investors who want to learn about mutual funds, index funds, and exchange-traded-funds (ETFs). Trading funds is less risky than trying to trade "individual" stocks.

Unless you plan on spending everyday of your life looking at stock charts trying to determine the best time to get in and out of "individual" stocks, I would look into some sort of fund.

The websites below all contain plenty of FREE information to get you started in the right direction.

mutual funds are great ways to invest your money...however, you need to find a mutual fund family that has low fees..

vanguard....fidelity....t rowe price

these three, vanguard being my favorite, all have excellent selections of mutual funds to choose from and all three have extrememely low fees

people who make a living off giving financial advice do not suggest these three because there is no commission for them..loads

The best firms are Vanguard and Fidelity. They offer many variations and most have a long history for your research.
PIMCO is also a good choice for Bonds.
Go to the web sites and look for some info regarding the fund. Morningstar is the absolute best company for ranking mutual funds.
Do your due diligence, invest in a couple different funds and be patient.

mutual funds tend to be cheaper (less expensive) than other forms of investing such as stocks. The reason is they are largely formulaic, and the cost of managing them is spread out over many many dollars. They also tend to buy large baskets of goods that tend to have low risk and have a close match to the market average return.

However mutual funds have had some parasitism; people trading in advance of the fund, taking profits away from little investors.

Transaction costs are my major concern. These are fees, taxes, and time. Only the last of these 3 is limited by technology, the former 2 by law.
