Sprint's stock is getting hammered. What are the odds Sprint will go bankrupt?
Sprint is one of the 4 nationwide wireless operators. They also own highly valuable 2.5G spectrum which they are building out with Wi-MAX technology. However, they did a poor job of integrating NEXTEL and have a reputation for poor customer service, alienating the loyal NEXTEL base. Their stock is at a multi-year low as a result. The new CEO, Dan Hesse, is a turnaround guy and has already cut jobs. If he can't turn the ship around what is the likelihood they'll be forced into bankruptcy?

0% chance.
The spectrum that Sprint owns is far too valuable to allow a bankruptcy. (In other words, the assets are far greater than their debts, and they can more than payoff all their debt and leave shareholder equity by merely selling off bandwidth).
Their is a much greater chance they would be purchased, than go ch 7.

Dan Hesse is not a turnaround guy, he is nothing but a glorified "fire every third person" guy.
Guys like that succeed in the good times (everybody would), but when its bad economical weather like that, they don't have a clue.
What Sprint need is a sane business plan and they don't have one, so the chance is, some Arabs will buy them for a couple of bucks, through disguised straw companies.
You would be surprised, how much of the money we give the Arabs to drive our SUV's ends up buying US companies.

My prediction is that Sprint/Nextel will not exist in another 3-5 years. Either a buyout or a burnout.

I read on Yahoo! yesterday that more companies will go bankrupt this year than during the 1991 recession. The Sharper Image isn't even honoring its own gift cards anymore because of its colossal deficit! It's a large possibility that they could go under. Who knows, maybe Verizon or AT&T will buy them out? Hopefully! :)

Kim good luck on that Visa stock. Hope you are vested with one of the holders or you will have to wait a week or two to get in on it.

To answer the question. No they are not going to go bankrupt any time soon. Just look at the financials they posted. They are in a position for a hostile take over and a reverse split in stock if it keeps dropping though. I do see more cuts in the job force for them also. Dividends won't be coming back anytime soon either.

The market overall is getting slaughtered. If you have cash on hand now and in the next 3 weeks is the time to buy and hold or short out. All reports are coming out and everyone is dumping on the bad news.

I think Kimberele is going to lose all her money when she buys visa

The only way they will survive is if we give black people their reparations checks. Then all the delinquent bills will be paid.

Mr Lizard
They are a long way from bankrupt. They still make money, just not as efficiently as they have in the past. Investors will continue to dump the stock, but they are not in danger of bankruptcy in the near future. If they can figure out how to change the perception of their bad service, they'll be fine.
