ams007 | Stocks to invest in right now? |
i am interested in possibly investing in some stocks, but i do not know alot about them at the present moment. what are some cheap stocks right now, like under $10, that will hopefully go up?? GM is pretty low right now, but i didn't know if that was a good idea with their financial status at the moment. thanks! |

if your going to go less than $10 in this market you are most likely looking for a riskier investment (if not by value, then at least by the price's proximity to zero). I would not touch the carmakers (GM or F). Try Citigroup. It is the largest financial institution (truely too big to fail as the gov't has proven with smaller institutions) and once the smoke clears will start to trend up. Im also not sure what your intended investment timeline is...Asking for stock advice is difficult when you dont give other factors (i.e. short term vs. long term and level of risk).
The wrong attitiude is trying to find the quick hit without knowing the stock. The right attitude is to invest in solid companies that are currently valued at prices from 5 to 10 years ago (i.e. GE) and invest for the long haul. Food for thought... |

If u are a long term investor, this is the right time for investing. It is advisable to invest 20% of your desirable amount of investment now. Another 20% to be invested when dow comes down to 7500 level. Balance will be invested when market recovered. Happy investing |

im just gonna boil down my answer so make it simple. I would suggest Microsoft (MSFT) their shares have proven to explode, they are ever expanding and plus unlike the volatility of a GM share your money will be safe. within a weeks time youll make some money. why tody actually, msft rose a great amount but i will continue to hold for even greater profits to come. |

Lots of stocks are great to invest in right now as they are all pretty cheap. Stick with companies that you know are strong and will endure a temporary downturn in profits. Make sure you buy stocks not based on price, but on the P/E ratio, Price to Free Cashflow, and other valuation ratios. Price alone doesn't tell you anything.
One company I like in particular is HRPT properties trust (ticker HRP). It is a real estate investment trust (REIT). It simply owns a bunch of properties, collects rent on those properties, and then pays most of that rent to the stockholders as a dividend. REITs have been pounded right now because people are very afraid of the real-estate market.
This is justified because often commercial real estate suffers during recessions (as some of their tenants go out of business and cannot pay rent). In addition many commercial real estate companies have high debt (because the stability of real estate allows them to take out massive mortgage loans to make more money).
HRP in particular though is very conservative. It has only about half as much debt as it does assets. So if the company were to liquidate today it would still have about 3 Billion dollars left over. Amazingly at its current stock price the company would cost only $767 million to buy the entire thing. So if the company went bankrupt and liquidated today you would still almost quadruple your money.
That also isn't very likely as the company has 6 times more money available within a year than it owes over the course of the next year. (so it is in great financial condition). This company will endure a short blip in the economy. And in the meantime it is paying a 25% dividend. WOW! |

Times are terrible right now. You would be taking a risk on most all stocks. Growth and profits just aren't going to be there for some time. I sold my GM. How many people do you know that are rushing out to buy a car now. Most companies still look over inflated in terms of share values. Whatever stocks move they are going to have to have good reason to do so. Most will probably be flat for a long time - years.
Be careful. |

Microsoft? They've been stagnate for a reason. You may get a $5 to $6 increase over the next 3 years.
Put EBS on your radar screen. Here's the chart; it's been climbing since March, 2008. It's due for a pullback and then it will resume.

the best stock to invest in and I do mean the best is ..your soul.Listen babylon is burning and its gonna get worse before it gets better. The best answer to your question would be to focus on being content, and your hunger be for peace in your heart and not for mammon. That my friend is the best stock to invest in, not with money, but with your heart. For where your heart is ..so is your soul.BEWARE!! |

I wouldn't bet on investing on stocks based on being "cheap". I know some really good ones to invest in, but the cost is twice that at least. |
