Suggest the most stable bank?
I just dumped my old bank, and now I'm wondering, which bank is on the least shaky terms? Hopefully one with a less "ridiculously borderline theft" overdraft policy than my old bank.

Probably Bank of America. They are the second largest in the U.S., and they seem to be doing better than the U.S.'s largest Citi Bank. They are safe.

RBC Centura - Located mainly in the Eastern/South Eastern states, but they are owned by the largest Canadian bank and Canadian banks are still financially solid.

I think going with a small local bank is best too for this reason, they are not going to be making large real estate loans like big banks and lending companies and therefore would be less likely to be affected by the current economic crisis.

you could look at some banks "solidity" in their financial statement to make a choice. wells fargo and BofA, as suggested earlier might be good alternatives.

That said, it wont make much difference which bank is most stable, as your money is guaranteed by the state.

Most of the biggies like Bank Of America, Wells Fargo are stable. They all fall under FDIC which insures your money. Now, the question is if you have a lot of money, over the FDIC limits, then I would look at a bank that's part of the Certificate of Deposit Account Registry Service. With the banks in this program, you get full FDIC insurance on deposits of up to $50 million. Go to CDARS.com for the complete story.

The most stable bank in the world right now is the:

HSBC - present in more than 90 and did not lose a penny on this mess.

I hate to admit because I hate those guys, but they did a great job.

Missy
I would suggest a small community bank.
