You can invest in the stockmarket indirectly via mutual fund route in diversified equity fund. The minimum investment required would be Rs 500/- (five hundred only) on a monthly basis.

If you are applying in an IPO, then the minimum amount generally varies between Rs 6000 to 6400.
If you plan to buy from the secondary market, there is no minimum limit, you can even buy a single share of the company. In this case the minimum value would be the rate of the share itself.
If you want to invest in Mutual Funds, then the minimum investment is Rs 500 via SIP route. |

It is not true that the minimum amount is Rs. 5000/-. Take the IPO of Jyothi Laboratories where minimum bid amount is 6200/- to 6900/- depending upon the bid cap. hence it depends upon the bid price, but probably it is below 10000/- |
