There is a company in Alabama that owes me a commission check. How do I go about getting it?

Read your contract on how you are to get paid. There should be some contact method specified.

Otherwise, contact their legal department. If the commission is large enough, hire a lawyer.

I know of 2 ways this can be handled. (1) If they fall under the authority of any regulatory commission in the state of Alabama, you can lodge a complaint with that commission. The company must then either pay you your commission or write the commissioner with the reason why they believe they do not owe you. You would then have proof if you need it to take the problem to a higher level. or (2) write the company, again, and send the letter certified mail return receipt requested, advising them they owe you this money and that you expect them to pay you within the next 20 days. If you do not get the money then, you can, if the amount they owe is below the small claims limit, you can sue in samll claims court to get your money. (Make sure you ask the judge to make them pay any charges for small claims court). These are the cheap ways. However, if it is a substantial amount they owe, you might contact an attorney. But I would try methods 1 & 2 first.

A. Write up a complete explanation of the situation. Include names, dates, commission amounts. Be very specific and include all detail you can. Other people may read this and you want no doubt that the company owes you the money.

B. Send a copy to the company and tell them that this is their final opportunity to settle this matter and that if they don't you will send the write up others.

C. If they don't pay send copies to the state Attorney General, the mayor, the city council, their bank, your bank, the newspaper, the employment security commission, the state sales tax board, the licensing board, the Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary Club, the newspapers, and anybody else you can think of.

good luck

If you have a record of your contract with this company and a copy of your commission made on client, go to the Labor Relation
Board and file a complaint.

if the amount is over 2500 I would physically go there and confront them

I do not know the name in english, but "Les Normes du Travail" should be the place to call in order to solve this or perhaps you simply tell your employer that you will have no choice to do this if they do not pursue with the comission check they owe you.

It all depends on the contract you signed (but there are often flaws there too and you can manage to go around it)
