I just hate the idea of buying high. Granted, this is for a long term investment (20 years) but I would hate to buy in at the current highs and have to wait 15 years for any substantial gains.

Shhhhh | Verizon or Starbucks... two very different companies and sectors... which one has the best long term potential |
Please note: By long term I mean as an investment for the next 15-20 years?
Which company do you believe would be the better investment? |

Verizon is much larger, and is now destroying Comcast. It also has basically only one competitor, AT&T, while Starbucks has every corner coffee shop at its heels. McDonalds has taken business from Starbucks with their premium coffees also. Verizon also pays a 4% dividend while you wait for capitol appreciation. |

Verizon's daddy is AT&T. They have been in the business forever. |

Starbucks.... They are in second place in their industry sector, and third place is quite a distance off. First place (Tim Hortons) won't be overtaken by Starbucks but that's ok because Starbucks targets a different clientèle, who spend more but cover less of a population. It evens out. Also, keep in mind, Starbucks doesn't franchise. If they were to franchise , there would be no stopping the rise in stock value. They'll always have a way to keep shareholders happy.
Verizon is in a tech game, tech changes constantly, and they are not far enough ahead of the pack to be effective as a longterm investment. You'd have a better chance with Virgin Mobile or Research in Motion (Blackberry).
All opinions of course.
