its is a good stock .
reason for it is that we have seen in the mortgage crises all financial had a tough time except mastercard .
y becaz it does not lends money . it just charges for the transaction done through it. so this makes risk attacked to it very less.
expecting same thing from visa and on same grounds visa looks to be a good stock .
but yes keep in mind mastercard took its time to get to its value so visa might take too. but good for longterm |

The poster who talked about Visa and MC making $$ from transactions is correct.
The risks with Visa and MC would be a general stock-market decline or a decline in retail spending (reflecting the decline in the overall economy) and hence a decline in fees.
If you're looking to hold over 10-25 years it might be a decent buy, barring a Japanese-style collapse of stock prices. It may be iffy buying this over a 2-3 year timespan, though. |

First I want to say that no stock is bullet proof. Also COMPARE the number of "shares outstanding" for VISA and MA. I think Mastercard really sold at a true bargain, even after it's first day. I understand that people tend to use their credit cards during hard times, but I don't think it can bridge the delta of fewer credit card transactions you will see in a true recession. I say this because obviously fewer transaction for Visa means dwindling profits. There is no quarterly report to judge VISA by right now, but if you read their prospectus you will see they have put aside a billion dollars for expected litigation. I don't worry so much about that, but it is something to consider. If you are in this for a year to 18 months, you should try to get a good price. If you are holding it for twenty years, don't worry as much about the initial buying price. However, try to understand that most people don't factor in human emotions in investing (not yours but the total of every other investor involved). This stock is still new and will likely see a correction of three to four dollars before it starts going up and up and up. I know they say you can't time the market, but I think a reasonable price for this stock would be some where between $57-59. Honestly, that is somewhat arbitrary; the question is what are you willing to pay, and how long do you plan to hold this stock? |

V is up from its IPO price. You may want to put in a limit order at a lower price. I have an order in at $50 but I may not get it. |

Woah. Hold up people. don't forget what happens when too many people use those cards. It may be good now, but watch out. That stock will go up and down like most stock, but Visa has been in some litigation trouble over contractual issues and they have some enemies. Things don't look so good in the middle of recession, which we are very close to, when people charge those beloved cards up and then have to claim bankruptcy or have to depend on another lender to get them out of the mire. That being said, if your in it for the short term, go ahead and invest while you can get it cheap. Just remember this market is volatile right now. Research in these types of stock will show you that the Financial sector is not doing so hot because of the lenders losing money with customers who are unable to pay back their loans for the product purchased. I work in mortgages and trust me, it's about to break loose.
Be safe and invest in a diversified portfolio with some information technology and strong consumer products. Buy now because things are going to change for the better around October! The American Funds are a good bet. Check it out. |
