mrniceguy1456 | Well, is the financial crisis over? |
They've screwed up the dollar by dropping the interest rate to rock bottom. You dont need mer to tell you how screwed up things are and the worst is this horrible bail out.
SO...does this bail out. "fix us"?
Or will there be more catasterous disaterfies? |

Far from over. No one can say where the bottom is. This bail out will not work. It will work for the short term, but it is only postponing what is to come. Study the "Great Depression". This is going to be the worst economy you have probably lived through for the next 10 years! |

No. It's only halftime, and don't know if the Fed has enough to go another half. |

First the bill has to be drafted and passed. Then everything should be better. But if we get a new president who raises taxes, we'll be in trouble. We need far less gov't spending and massive tax cuts so people can get out of debt and the economy can grow.
This current mess took years to form. It came about by making banks loan money to people who couldn't pay back the loans (thank Jimmy Carter and Billy Clinton). Bush warned about this in 2003, but the democrats blocked the needed reforms. McCain warned us in 2005, but the democrats again blocked needed changes. |

Well sentiment has definitely changed, but that is all. We really will not know anything until we see what they put together. If the people who cannot find the bathroom without a map, (congress) decide hammer Wall Street as so many leftists would, then no, it isn't over.
It all hinges on exactly how they decide to deal with the bad debt. If company X has 1 billion in bad debt that the government is going to take on, and it is valued at 800 million, but no one will buy it for more than 500 million. Does the government pay the company 500 million and tell them to eat the 300 million loss, or, do they pay 800 million and either warehouse it to term, or sell it for 500 million leaving the taxpayer stuck with the bill?
That is what you are up against. If you stick the company with the loss, the market loses liquidity and they have to go raise capital when capital is tight, thus pressuring the economy.
If you eat the loss the taxpayer is on the hook and the deficit grows, weakening the dollar, and causing inflation.
Very tough balancing act. |
