I just got a job caddying in which I make close to $150/day on weekends which will go into the summer. Since I'm only 17 i don't have many things to worry about since prom has been paid off and I have a car which fills up at $17 and lasts 2-3 weeks. With college coming around, the more money you have the better and as a business/accounting major to be I'd like to start early investing.
In your opinion, what would be the best thing to invest in at my age/my situation? |

Your two lowest risk investments are (in order of risk):
U. S. Treasury Securities (Notes, bills, etc.) - Must invest at least $1,000
Bank deposits (savings, interest checking, certificates of deposit, etc.) - Insured if under $100,000 - Probably your best bet, at least until you build up some savings.
Money market funds are good also, are relatively safe, and pay a higher interest rate than bank interest checking or savings accounts. Most have a minimum, usually at least $1,000. |

Good for you for taking charge of your finances in a responsible manner. I would suggest for your age and risk tollerance go with low risk M-Funds (T-Bills, Growth Funds) or just stick with the good o'l GIC (term deposits). Won't make you a millionaire but will still earn you a return and help you save for the future. |
