What's the best investment you've ever made?

I opened a DRIP Plan 22 years ago, and it has been the best investment choice I have ever made. It has averaged 10.4% annually over the years. Not to bad !!!

I always recommend people look to Retirement accounts first, and if they have extra cash after contributing to their retirement accounts, then look into opening a DRIP Plan.

Best of Luck

My education, my full investment into my art which is for 85% the total of my education and my lifestyle into the Bohemian life it calls for.
It has made me the person I can not deny I should be!

A nobody
Invested in myself, by working since pre-teens, paid my own college and earned degree,
served in the military, worked & suceeded in same industry,
and managed to keep my faith in God and my country

The investment I made in myself.

When I first joined the Army at 17 years old, an old and wise Sergeant Major told me to invest 10% of my income every month in something - anything.

I did that for 18 years. I took the 10% out before I even deposited my check so I never noticed that it was missing. I bought stocks and bonds and CDs and metals and put some in the credit union, bought some real estate later, etc... Some of the stocks I bought did VERY well. The real estate is just sitting there but it's mine. The money funds performed reasonably.

At 38 years old (after 18 years of service) I retired. It's not a bad life right now even with the economy down.

I wish that I had also gotten a good education earlier. I returned to college in my 40's to finish my bachelor's and master's and am still in school. If I had gotten that same education earlier - I'd have earned much more to invest and would have known how to manage the investments better.

My point though is that it's not as much what you invest in but that you invest continously over a long period.

Cell phone companies. When all my friends and co-workers where investing in the Baby Bells and the coax TV field, I took the low road and invested in cell companies, even when they went down, I bought more.

I put $3,500 into a 26 month CD and now it's up to $5,000.
