The bonds are drawn on the 1st of every month. My dad wins a prize most months (just the smallest £50 prize) but he says that it is really exciting getting that cheque through the post! He does own quite a few, though. I have £500 (only purchased in the new year) and I have won £100 so far! Of course, there is always the chance to win the million! So, for a few days a month I dream about that! You can also check if you have won on the National Savings and Investments website. Can't lose really because you can cash them in at any time for full value of bond. There could be some research to say that they are not a viable investment but nothing beats that feeling that you could really win the big one!! Good luck! |

oh deary me

Well they cost £100 each and are entered into a monthly draw to win mega bucks.
We have won a bit.
Childrens bonus bonds ( from the post office ) are a good idea, they cost £25 each and earn interest every year. They acnnot be cashed until age 18 or 21. |

i got £5k in premium bonds, I had 8 months with no winnings, then I kept winning. averagely over the year the payout has been better than a high interest account. but im aware that in the future i may not have any more winnings. but im also aware that my odds of getting the £1 million prize is better than doing the lottery. |

well if it helps, i`ve had mine for 45 years and nver won anything. Of course there are many people who have won but if you look at the monthly payouts on ceefax you will notice it`s generally people who have over 20,000 invested. The other thing with them is they do not increase in value ever, when you or if you decide to sell them you will only get what you paid. There are over 60billion tickets in the draw every month.... |

One premium bond will cost you one pound,This bond has a number on it,Every week a computer pick out a series of numbers,If your bond is picked you win money,When or if you get bored with bonds you can get your money back,Full amount ,You cannot lose any money with premium bonds,But they will not go up in value,Hope that helped you. |

premium bonds are bonds issues by the government, which you can sell back to them at any time for the original price of 1 pound. every month, numbers are selected at random, and the winning tickets receive a prize of anything between 50 and 1million pounds.
as a rough idea, i own 2000 premium bonds, and have won 150 pounds in just over a year, but it is completely random.
it is a no risk investment, but they gradually depreciate in value because of inflation. ie a pound 10 years ago was worth alot more than a pound now.
hope this makes sense.. |

You "invest" bonds which cost £1 each but can only be bought in multiples of 50 after your initial purchase of 100.
You never lose your money if you don't win a prize in the monthly draw, your bonds stay in the "pot" until you decide to withdraw from the scheme. In that case you get your original deposit back.
No interest is paid and the odds of winning any prize is calculated to be 21000 to 1, which is much better than the National Lottery. That also explains why holders of over £20000 seem to win something most months.
It's a fun gamble, not really an investment. I have £1000 worth of bonds and haven't won anything yet......but next month who knows? |

Premium bonds are a bit like raffle tickets. You buy some, they are put in the pot then some are pulled out. If yours come out you win. If not you get another chance next month when they are all put back in the pot again.
I have a few hundred premium bonds and have won £50 twice in about three years. They are a bit of a gamble but unlike the lottery, at least if you don't win (and you could win up to £1 million) you can get your money back. |
