Check out my blog, to which I have included the link, as it has my portfolio of 18 stocks , as well as a short write-up on each company, addressing why I like them. Of course, this would just be a starting point on researching each company, but it might be worth a look, as it's a completely long-sided portfolio, with a beta of approximately 1.5, yet it's limited my losses to half that of the S&P 500 year-to-date. It will give you an idea of the areas that I see potential, and at the very least, give you some industries to look at. Just a thought, I hope it helps.

I like CCF, AIZ, BDX, CCF, EGN, CHD, MLAB, TKZ.
All are very solid stocks besides the obvious ones like Coke and Microsoft

With respect to the above poster avoid IACI which will be tied up with LINTA in litigation for the better part of this year.
MRO- most undervalued energy play huge upside with refining and upstream growth
HCSG- nation's leading health care linen +400% return never sold a share
TNE- Brazil telcom undervalued and merging with BRP. I've been in it from 12 now mid 20s after merger low to mid 30s
TMX- Beat up after this last Q but TMX is spinning off all its international opperations this year. trades mid 30s FMV 45-50 after the split.
Refiners- TSO, VLO, SUN buy em now and sell em in june
