Dude, I can give my feedback according to my experience but I am not sure which bank offers how much and what interest rates. For that you have to market survey by your own:

1. State Bank of India
2. HSBC
3. HDFC
4. Citi Bank
5. Standard Chartered
6. ICICI (All you heard, were all rumors, this bank is still rock solid, I am also human being and thats why its last in my list)

Thanks.

Buddy, Banks in India are very safe because we do not have the concept of Investment banks in India. All are retail banks which take deposits from customers. Hence are totally bound by the RBI. Hence all of them are safe.

When it comes to Nationalized banks they are even safer because the government of India is responsible for our money.

If you want me to rate them then here it goes...

1. SBI - SBI is one of the largest banks in the country and it has a very strong cash base which makes it no.1 in my listing...
2. HDFC Bank - HDFC bank is the largest private bank in the country and has a great management and a fantastic cash reserve. Since SBI is a nationalized bank it beat HDFC & ICICI.
3. ICICI Bank - ICICI is the second largest private bank in the country and KV Kamath its boss is one of the best in the business...
4. Indian Bank - Nationalized...
5. Axis Bank - A very good bank.

I have not taken into consideration citibank, ABN Amro, HSBC etc because they are not of Indian origin. esp citi and ABN Amro have had huge losses because of the US Subprime crisis and hence are not the best choices now.

My preference would be HDFC or ICICI since the quality of service you get in these banks is far better than the nationalized banks. But nationalized banks are backed by the government of india hence SBI beat HDFC and ICICI to the no.1 slot...

Cheers,
Anand

I hold account in first 2. I like HDFC more than SBI but Since SBI is a nationalized bank that will be the first choice.
