tola | What are the benefit of being a shareholder? |
what are the information contained in a prospectus |

if you become shareholder of a company, it means you bought common stock of that company and became one of the owners. If you are majority stake holder, you will have following benefits
1. representation to company governing board
2. dividend
3. influence policy matters of the company
4. influence day to day operation of the company
if you are minority stake holder
1. you will get dividend only
In the company prospectus, mainly audited financial records are kept (i.e. balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement) in addition to a glimpse of company's future strategy, products, board members etc. etc.. the contents vary from company to company though ...
Note: The dividends are paid when the company is making profit. If company makes loss, you being the owner, loose too. |

Stocks do not have prospectus, mutual funds and other managed products do. As an investor in a managed product you are not a direct shareholder.
Shareholder benefits include your ownership in the company. The ability to participate in the increasing (or decreasing) value of the company, vote on directors, rights to distributions of the companies income, rights to buy new shares when issued by the company, you also have liquidation rights if the company goes bankrupt (if the company had had enough to pay its creditors, it would not have entered bankruptcy), although a stock may have value after a bankruptcy if there is the possibility that the debts of the company will be restructured. |

As well as having a huge interest, it is fun to go to stockholder meetings and walk around looking like you own the place when all you have is a couple of thousand one cent shares.. Grin!!
I had a wonderful time with the sharemarket in the 80's...should have another go sometime..
Its a great interest..I used to read the Financial times and knew the prices of most shares as I was constantly buying and selling.
The sharemarket put my daughter through Private School..so it did also have a purpose.
It was also more possible then..today is harder.. so make sure you do read the prospectus, and more importantly, the financial news so you know what is going on. |

Some companies pay dividends to their shareholders every quarter.
Obviously the main benefit is the price of the stock goes up.
For example you invest $100.00 in Google and two years later is $400.00
That sure beats the 5% per year your bank pays you. |

The prospectus describes a project on the positive side. Write yourself one on the negative side and see if it outweighs the positive side. Have a knowledgeable person evaluate your "grade." |

Real benefits: You can receive dividends (share of the profit). You can get capital gains (if the stock moves up). You can attend shareholder meetings. You can tell your friends you are part owner of a company and they might think you're pretty cool. |

The benefit to being a share holder is not only being able to invest in a company, being able to share in the profits when the company is doing well and being able in some cases to have a say by voting for some of the people running the company on occasions. |

The best benefit of share holder is the participation in the wealth created by the company. If the company is doing good business, the value of your share will increase & company will also give dividends & bonus. For large share holders, they can have a representation in the company board of directors. |
