What are the chances of APPLE Company going bankrupt if there was a deep recession?
Would you say Apple will never close down? but tens years ago we would never has imagined todays failure of giant companies, so what you think?

on a scale of one to ten, ten being most likely.

This is how I see it.

When the recession deepens money is likely to be allocated in the technology industry. They are innovative and release new products quite often but that mass innovation causes their stock to be quite volatile. The volatility in the stock means they can boom or shrink really fast. But as long as they keep innovating and remain market leaders in the MP3 sector its not likely they will go bankrupt, the innovation will cause their stock to remain in consolidation.

If Steve Jobs hadn't returned to Apple they would have gone bankrupt so its not impossible but with him around and the strength of their new image I highly doubt they will go broke.

3/10.

There is not too great a chance. They have about 34 billion in cash and cash equivelents, no debt. The giant companies you are referring to are so poorly managed that they actually deserved to fail. It is actually a crime that the government is using our money to save their sorry asses.

hmmm probably a 5 depends on how much debt they have. Have they been playing fast and loose------- over paying their executives--------- providing exorbitant bonuses ---------- Do they have their own jet ? I don't know but would not be surprised as a lot of companies have been caught out in these hard times that are going to become harder as reality and no money starts to sink in probably in just a few months and sales drop away as people that aren't working aren't buying........glad every one else is not as pessimistic as I am. lol

2 out of 10. Apple have said that sales for their products have decreased and have had to cut back, less staff for example. However, this Christmas was an excellent Christmas, in terms of ipod touch's sales. Millions were sold. So it's not very likely but Steve Jobs could soon resign as head of Apple so who knows if a new leader might take the company to.

because the U S government would surely bail them out too

I agree with Muncie. They have very high cash and little debt so their chance of bankruptcy is near zero. They still have good, high, positive cash flow.

They could certainly make mistakes and the company's fortunes, profitability, could definitely change but outright failure from this recession is very unlikely.
