What are the factors which influence the price of an equity share?

anshul
The most basic factors that influence price of equity share are demand & supply factors. If most of people starts buying then prices move up & if people start selling prices go down. Govt policies, company results or any other sector or company spcific news leads to increse or decrease in demand & supply of shares. Hence price of share is influenced.

The price of an equity share is influenced by a number of factors, the most common of which is the earnings of the company. (The P/E ratio). However, market sentiment can override these factors, causing short term prices to vary a great deal from long term share prices. Such sentimental factors include rumours, takeover speculation, adverse news, broker ratings, credit rating changes and government policy announcements, in addition to the company's own performance and earnings forecast.

In short any news, yes any news!! concerning company can effect the share price. Govt. polices, stability, company's management and news from management can also effect share price. It is really not possible to explain all factors and forces that can have effect on the share price. There could be millions of reasons.

There may be many factors affecting the price of an equity share. On a broad basis there are macro and micro economic factors. Macro economic factors may be like politics, general econmic conditions i.e. how the economy is performing, government regulations etc. Then there may be other factors like demand and supply conditions which can be influenced by the performance of the company and ofcourse the performance of the company vis a vis the industry performance and the performance of the other players in the industry.
