The best return has been and always will be investing in yourself. Whether through education, a business or expiriences, these investments always pay the biggest dividends. As far as regular investments it changes depending on the period of time you live in. Real estate has always been a dependable investment but there are a lot of people who have gone broke investing in it. Effective investments change with the person, what are your resources, skills and temperment? Do you want to stay ahead of inflation, protect your purchasing power you have now or are you looking for a future source of income? In order to answer your question effectively more information is needed. Here is a list of investments that will probably be good for the future: energy stocks, land, medical and senior care stocks, gold, silver, companies in India, China and Russia. This is just a quick list off the top of my head. Right now we are witnessing a migration of wealth from western civilizations to the east and I think that is where the top investments in the future will be. India has a huge population that is very well educated and clamoring for a better lifestyle, China is also huge with some well educated people but focusing on manufacturing, Russia is just starting to emerge from the problems of switching to a market economy and they have a HUGE amount of natural resources, their population is stagnet but that seems to be changing now with a better economic future and they have a very highly educated population. If you are young I recommend learning Chinese or Russian. These places are where future growth in the world economy will come from. |

For most people, it's establishing an IRA (most go with the Roth IRA), participating in your company's 401k, and mutual funds in a brokerage account. I'd recommend thinking long-term... probably the best investment approach is to leave it alone. |

Gradually, with patience, and discipline, and to put your money only in high quality investments. Diversify. I suggest mutual funds, and common stocks, but only after you have learned much about the market. Read up on it. Establish some goals, and an action plan that will enable you to achieve those goals. There are no shortcuts. |

Have been told that gold and realistate are still the two best in the long run. |

In the long run gold & RE are not the best but gold definitely good right now. IAU is an etf that gives you direct gold investment. Some Reits ok but risk high for those right now. RRE or other close-end Reit fund better. GRP & other oil drillers solid. |

I don't know what your time frame or your goals are (two critical points for choosing an investment vehicle), but slow and steady wins the race. There's something called "dollar cost averaging". You invest a fixed amount every month into a mutual fund (a Vanguard index fund maybe) and don't stop. This way, you buy more shares when the price is low, and less shares when the price is high. The key is sticking to it. You really have to take a deep breath to write that check when the market is sliding, but that's when you are truly "buying low". The people who secure their financial futures don't typically do it overnight. It takes time and patience and monitoring of your investments.
Good luck! |
